BOXING NL ADDS THREE NEW MEMBERS TO THEIR HALL OF FAME

During an evening of entertaining boxing that followed a three course meal at the Royal Canadian Legion on Friday, October 22nd, Boxing Newfoundland and Labrador inducted three new members to its Hall of Fame.  The Hall of Fame was introduced last year after a number of years of planning, and seven members were initially inducted. The three new members now provide a total of 10 members to Boxing NL’s illustrious Hall.

Boxing NL President Hank Summers introduced the three inductees and read a brief history of their boxing careers.  Brian Bambrick, Jason Hayward, and Blair Tobin, three former athletes that had tremendous boxing careers, were presented with their Hall of Fame Certificates by guest speaker Tom Osborne, the Minister of Education for the Government of NL.  The three athletes were given a standing ovation by the packed house following a short address by each of them.

BOXING NL MEMBERS ATTEND TRAINING CAMP

2023 Canada Winter Games Coach Todd Rideout of the CBS Boxing Club, and CWG’s boxer Riley O’Brien of the TRC Boxing Club attended a 10 day “Next Generation Evaluation Training Camp” hosted by Boxing Canada.  The training camp took place at the INS Quebec in Montreal and hosted a number of Male and Female athletes throughout Canada.

Provincial Coaches attending this Camp worked throughout the week with Boxing Canada’s Coaches from the High Performance Center in Montreal.  The purpose of this Camp was to access our future athletes and prepare them for the next three years leading to the Olympic Games in 2024.

Boxing starting up again.

Boxing Newfoundland and Labrador is pleased to hear that both the TRC Boxing Club and the CBS Boxing club will resume training again. The CBS club has been closed since the start of the pandemic and the TRC club trained last year but only with reduced numbers. Both clubs will resume training at their regular locations; the CBS club operates out of St George’s Elementary School in CBS and the TRC club operates out of MacDonald Drive Junior High on MacDonald Drive.

For information on how to join one of the clubs and their days of operation, please contact Todd Rideout for the CBS Boxing Club at 764-3109 or for the TRC Boxing Club contact Hank Summers at 687-6049.
